American Hollies


Ilex opaca ‘Dan Fenton’* - Dan Fenton American Holly

Despite its name, this is a female. It has excellent dark green leaves and a vigorous pyramidal growth habit. Berries are bright red. New and better!

Introduced by the late Paul Bosley. This is a dense Holly with medium sized leaves of excellent form and texture. A heavy fruitier, it is very hardy!

Dwarf, dense and spreading, similar to Helleri except with golden foliage. Color is best in a sunny location. Grows 18” tall x 4’ wide. RARE!

Black green glossy leaves reflect the clouds as they sail by. Pyramidal growth habit, 12' x 6' wide. A great male holly to pollinate many of our hybrids!  Very few serrations on the large leaves give a lovely texture. Loves shearing to keep its shape.

Silky water has the same pyramidal shape as some of our other hollies.  Silky Water is a little less dense which shows off it's huge clusters of red fruits in fall.  Leaves are less serrated and wider than average.

Chosen from over 150 seedlings for its vigor and heavy fruiting.  Red berries prolific along branches.  Grows to 12'.

Ilex verticillata ‘Jim Dandy’ - Jim Dandy Male Winterberry Holly

Early flowering male, slow-growing, compact and densely branched. Good pollinator. Grows 6-10'. Full sun.

Ilex verticillata ‘Oosterwijk ’ - Oosterwijk Winterberry Holly

A prolifically suckering form which makes this wider than tall (6' by 8').  The berries are longer lasting than most other forms.  Use Southern Gentleman as the pollinator.
