Dear Gardening Friends,

We presently grow over 1700 different varieties of hardy woody ornamentals. Many are available only in our Garden Center, as they are too large to logically fit into a shipping box and send.

We welcome your inquiries regarding varieties not included in our mail order listing, as well as your personal visits to our Garden Center and The Barn Owl Gift Shop.

Our garden center and gift shop are stocked full of many fine plants, unusual garden gifts and a large selection of fountains and statuary. We are open daily April 1 thru November 1, including Sundays and Holidays from 9 to 5 p.m.

Our two annual SALE dates, 4th of July and Labor Day weekend are becoming a PLANT LOVERS - MUST DO  tradition and shouldn't be missed by anyone who loves unusual plants and bargains.

Wavecrest is located on the western shore of Lake Michigan in the middle of a fabulous vacation area and can be included in your family's summer travel plans this year. Plan to visit us soon!

Metasequoia glyptostroboides - Dawn Redwood
Zone 5
A hardy, fast growing Redwood with the majestic conical shape of the giants. Grows to 70' in moist, sunny, slightly acidic soil. Bright green needles turning to reddish-brown in fall before dropping. Very tolerant of a wet location.
 

Polygonatum humile- Dwarf Japanese Solomon’s Seal
Zone 5
A dainty Solomon’s Seal growing only about six inches tall. Spreads slowly,
tolerates shade. Rare!
 

Aesculus parviflora - Bottlebrush Buckeye
Zone 5
Large mounding specimen plant under shade trees, blooms with pure white, bottle brush-like flowers in late July and has glowing gold fall color. Grows to 10'x10'.
 

Ilex x (Hybrid) ‘Stormy’ - Stormy Holly
Zone 5
Stormy holly has a beautiful dense habit and fruits nicely.  A pyramidal holly that can grow to 12' x 6'.  It's dense habit makes it a great candidate for shadier spots!  A great holly for screening.

Chionanthus virginicus - Fringe Tree
Zone 3
A large shrub or small tree (20').  Has hanging lacy white flowers in prolific numbers.  Very versatile and hardy.

Tricyrtis hirta ‘Miyozaki’ - Dwarf Toad Lily
Zone 5
Same as species except ultimate height is only 2' tall. Place in the border or the foreground of the garden for a fall color splash!
 

Magnolia tripetala - Umbrella Magnolia
Zone 5
Very hardy Magnolia with huge tropical leaves on the new growth.  Flowers are large and off white.  Seed pods are prolific, coral in color and form in summer.
